'Swedish Air Force caused my tinnitus'

A 25-year-old man has reported the Swedish Air Force to the police following suspicions that low flying planes may have impaired his hearing.

In a written submission, the man explained that he had contracted tinnitus while holidaying at his summer cottage in Värmlands Nysäter in western Sweden.

"We are treating this with the utmost seriousness," Henrik Gebhardt, spokesman for the F7 air base, told Nya Wermlands-Tidningen.

The F7 base, located in Såtenäs, is home to the country's largest fleet of Gripen fighter planes. Training operations are commonplace in the local area.

The Air Force has pledged to launch an investigation into the type of planes operating in the skies above the man's holiday home, as well as the altitude at which they are flown.

Meanwhile, a public prosecutor has been handed the task of deciding whether to press charges against the Air Force for causing the 25-year-old's injury.
